Diamond Dawgs Balancing / Team Selection Guidlines
Diamond Dawgs Balancing / Team Selection Guidelines
Goal
- To create fair and balanced teams for the enjoyment of all players.
On Field Skills Evaluations
- Players will be evaluated on Pitching, Hitting, Infielding, Outfielding and Athletic Ability.
- Each division will have 1-2 skill evaluation sessions subject to field availability and weather conditions.
- Players will be assigned an overall rating and placed into tiers based upon skill level. Pitching skills will be highlighted.
- Players and Coaches are expected to attend all skill evaluation sessions and exhibition games for their division.
Team selection
- The Head Coaches and a member of the Diamond Dawgs Board with no child(ren) in the division will meet to review the balancing data and select teams.
- The Coaches are responsible for holding each other accountable to select fair and evenly balanced teams. Teams should have an equal distribution of players by overall skill rating and by pitching skills.
- A Coach’s Player(s) will be their first selection(s) in the rating tier they are placed.
- Teams will not be selected until a Head Coach or Assistant Coach has been identified for each team at a division.
On Field Exhibition/Mini Game Evaluations
- Players will be assigned to preliminary teams and the Diamond Dawgs will hold exhibition mini-games to further evaluate in game performance.
- The Coaches may decide to make revisions to rosters at this stage until all are in agreement that the teams are evenly balanced.
Friend Requests
- As noted in DDMBA rules, requests for players to play with other players will be considered where possible, but not to the detriment of division of players by overall ability.
As per the new DDMBA rule 1.1.5, Teams will not be final until the DDMBA Exhibition Games have concluded at the start of the season and associations are satisfied that balancing has been successful.
